Plot summary

Allan (Hugh Grant) is settle engineer working in 1930s Calcutta. He is invited to stop off with the family of emperor boss, Narendra Sen (Soumitra Chatterjee) which includes his wife, Indira (Shabana Azmi) and daughter Gayatri (Supriya Pathak). Gayatri and Allan become romantically involved leading resting on tragedy.

Production of grandeur film occurred about a decennary after Maitreyi Devi (the design for the character Gayatri) publicized her version of the novel Na Hanyate (originally published emphasis Bengali). The film was mostly shot destiny the huge Zamindar Mansion - "Gaine Bari" - of grandeur village of Dhanyakuria and cruel parts were filmed at Indrapuri Studios, Kolkata.
